Understanding Pathways Projects

What Are Pathways Projects?

Pathways projects are structured learning experiences that combine online preparation with real-world practice. Each project focuses on specific skills and provides clear objectives, resources, and evaluation criteria.

Types of Projects

Speech Projects

  • What they are: Prepared speeches delivered at club meetings
  • Length: Usually 5-7 minutes (varies by project)
  • Examples: Ice Breaker speech, Organizing Your Speech, Vocal Variety

Leadership Projects

  • What they are: Hands-on experiences outside of speeches
  • Examples: Organize club events, mentor new members, lead committees
  • Time frame: May span several weeks or months

Most paths include a mix of both speech and leadership projects for balanced skill development.

Required vs. Elective Projects

  • Required Projects: Core projects everyone on your path must complete
  • Elective Projects: Choose from several options based on your interests and goals

When choosing electives, consider what skills would benefit you most in your current role or future goals.

How Projects Work

1. Preparation (1-2 weeks)

  • Review Requirements: Download project instructions from Base Camp
  • Study Resources: Use provided templates and guides
  • Plan Content: Develop your speech or leadership initiative

2. Execution

  • Speech Projects: Present at club meeting
  • Leadership Projects: Implement your planned initiative
  • Focus on Objectives: Apply the specific skills you're learning

3. Reflection

  • Receive Feedback: Get evaluation from assigned club member
  • Self-Assessment: Review what you learned
  • Plan Next Steps: Apply insights to future projects

Project Pacing

  • Recommended Timeline: One project every 3-4 weeks
  • Stay Flexible: Adjust based on your schedule and club meeting availability
  • Build Momentum: Start simple and gradually increase complexity

Projects are learning experiences, not performance evaluations. Focus on growth and improvement rather than perfection.
